The Ultimate Guide to Job Hunting
Prepare to put yourself "out there" online with a polished and professional resume, either in Word format or as a PDF file. It should give a clear picture of who you are and what skills you bring to the workplace. I recommend selecting job websites that are specifically aligned with the work you are interested in. Then, register yourself.

But before throwing your net out and setting up alerts for job openings, you should know your parameters, such as how much money you need to make as well as how far you'll go (or even move) for a job. There are a wealth of sites that not only help you boost your presence to future employers, but also offer strategies and tips for a successful search.

Here is a list of favorites that I've found most helpful:
  • - a basic introduction to the online job search process, also perfect for evaluating a career path.
  • - features webinars that teach you exactly what today's job search requires.
  • - take a host of free workshops and discover more about in-demand careers and career profiles and pathways.
  • - as a search tool, this site is easy to navigate and provides wonderful results. You just need to type in your occupation and city and the list of open positions is automatically created for you.
  • - provides an enlightening education/salary calculator for the health care industry.
These are just a few of my top picks. For a complete list of resources, visit and search for Job Seekers.

A necessary component to anyone's job search is creating a strategically presented LinkedIn page. I recommend you take full advantage of LinkedIn by joining industry-specific professional groups and signing up for webinars related to your field. In addition to online efforts, there is a world of information to be found at your local library, especially the Akron Public Library and Cuyahoga County Public Library.

Looking for more hands-on help in developing a successful career transition? Don't miss the Job Seekers program at CVCC.
