COURSES - MEDICAL OFFICE MANAGEMENT
Students will carry out procedures used to manage people and information in medical offices. Students will code medical procedures in accordance with applicable guidelines as well as use technology to convert patient information to electronic medical records. They will also manage the insurance billing and collection process, utilize a patient scheduling and registration system, and develop a compliance program. Medical office safety and security will be emphasized. Specific topics include employability skills, leadership and communications, business ethics and Law, Knowledge management and information technology, customer relations, compliance, corporate social responsibility, Information Management, Business applications, Talent Onboarding, Safety, Health and Security, Quality Management, Operations Risk Management, Project Management, Medical Operations, Electronic Health Records, Medical Coding and Billing, Internal Controls, and Change Management,
OFFICE MANGEMENT
Students will apply techniques used to manage people and information in a business environment. Students will learn to build relationships with clients, employees, peers and stakeholders and to assist new employees. They will manage business records, gather and disseminate information, and preserve critical artifacts. They will also examine contracts, internal controls and compliance requirements. Business office tools and applications will be emphasized.
Also students will gain an awareness and working knowledge of CPT Coding Theory and Practice as well as ICD-10-CM Coding Theory and Practice.
Students will be using an Electronic Health Record Management Software system called SimChart For the Medical Office as well as a continuation of MS Office software to specialize in MS Excel and Outlook.
Students may have the opportunity to participate in a non-paid internship at a local medical facility. The ideal placement would be for a period of 4-6 weeks and then in January students who are eligible may go on Early Placement into paid jobs.

Employment Readiness/Participation 15% (includes wearing uniforms daily, professional demeanor, not on cell phones)
Competency Attainment/Assignments 35%
Tests/Quizzes 50%
Late assignments will be graded with a 10% deduction for every day late. Over 1 week late will NOT be give points.
ATTENDANCE
A student should always be in class unless he/she has an extreme illness or a family emergency. As this classroom is a simulation of a real office each student (employee) has daily responsibilities, consistent attendance is very important. Students who have perfect attendance in each quarter will be invited to the CVCC's 100% Club ceremony for the opportunity to win prizes.
If an student is absent, he/she is responsible for any missed information. He/she must meet with another student or Mrs. Clements to get any materials or training missed. Lateness cannot be tolerated by employers. Therefore, students in this program need to develop the habit of arriving to work (class) on time and being prepared to start work immediately.
If you are consistently absent, it WILL AFFECT YOUR GRADE.
