Hello Cuyahoga Valley Career Center Community and Parents,
I would like to begin by thanking our community for all you have done to keep CVCC operating under in-person instruction through Thanksgiving break. I am so thankful for the decision our families are making, both at home and in school, to keep COVID-19 numbers at a level which allow us to keep our hands-on courses open.
One of CVCC's first identified concerns was the fact that we serve 29 communities and if internal spread would happen within our facility, it could have a wide-ranging impact. This past week, we learned of an increase in hospitalizations including a 13% rise in occupancy of pediatric critical care beds. The increase in COVID-19 cases also makes it difficult for county agencies to keep up with contact tracing. This means, someone who came in contact with a positive individual may not be notified and may join a family gathering. Finally, we know individuals will be gathering with families for Thanksgiving. All these variables and more led CVCC Leadership to the following change to our opening plan:
- CVCC will transition to 100% remote learning for High School students for one-week periods after Thanksgiving, November 30th through December 4th, and after New Year's, January 4th through January 8th. These remote weeks are to allow for a wait period after family gatherings to ensure students who report to CVCC are well. The decision is made to control internal spread concerns and ensure we stay open as many days as possible. One-week remote learning after Thanksgiving is fewer missed days than if we experience internal spread and have to close for a three-week period between the holiday breaks. This is our attempt to control variables instead of variables controlling us.
I will end with encouraging students to continue to follow our protocols if gathering: social distance, wear your masks, and wash hands frequently. Thank you again for all you are doing to keep CVCC safe and in-person. We look forward to seeing all students back on December 7th!
