CVCC Provides the Designers of Tomorrow
Examples of the scope of our specialties include public buildings, education, housing, land surveying, parks and recreation, utility services, public works, transportation, retail/commercial, telecommunications, healthcare, MES, and geotechnical services.

We blend planning, architecture, and engineering systems into a unity of creativity, collaboration, and innovation. Each year we select three to six interns from the 15 students who interview with us. The part-time program runs January through May, 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday afternoons.

After overseeing the program for the past five years, I can report that we have been consistently "wowed" by the level of training and commitment we see from CVCC students.

They are the ones who come to the interview with a courteous and professional manner. And they are well prepared, exhibiting specific knowledge about our company. In addition to a standardized resume, they bring their portfolios, which include sample drawings they've made utilizing the various software packages, as well as certificates they've earned.

Getting Your Tech On
Three-dimensional modeling is a huge part of our industry, and CVCC students absolutely know their tech. We are able to build on their broad base of capabilities.

One example of a daily job task a typical intern would execute is receiving work from a designer or entry-level engineer that is marked up with "red lines" or edits to be made via CAD and given back by the end of the day.

In our industry, the CVCC-style of education is critical.

We are intent on grooming the next generation of individuals and elemental to that effort is GPD's College Education Benefit, which pays students who work full-time after high school graduation $7,000 per year toward college classes. It might take them a little longer to graduate, but they do so without debt while possessing priceless, real-world experience, which puts them ahead of other college graduates.

Since the intern program's inception, our firm has hired 53 of the 84 students, 38 of whom took advantage of the education benefit and six who worked here part-time. Once they enter full-time work with us, they've already been through the learning curve, which makes them invaluable.

We take the responsibility of mentoring these students quite seriously.

Inspiring the architects, engineers, and designers of tomorrow is in keeping with the GPD leadership team's commitment to growing and evolving with the times, while remaining true to our values -- keeping one foot firmly grounded in the present and one eye on the future.
