Power Equipment Technology I


Syllabus

Junior Year

Power Equipment is the study of all Outdoor powered equipment, Power sports, Hydraulics & Engines & Fuel systems

Individuals completing this program find themselves prepared to be entry-level technicians in the above-mentioned careers.

1st Quarter:

  • Shop Safety

Tool use and identification

Large gasoline powered engine service:

Disassemble

Clean parts

Identify parts

Inspect & measure parts/components

      Cylinder reconditioning

      Block cleaning & Painting

      Bottom end reassembly

      Cylinder head service

       Final assembly & Adjustments

2nd Quarter:

  • Small gas engine service

Disassemble small gas engine

Clean and inspect, measure parts

Cylinder reconditioning

Reassemble

Tests run and adjust Governor/Carburetor

Equipment operation 

Failure analysis

      Basic customer service

3rd Quarter:

  • Fuel Systems/Delivery mechanisms                                             

      Fuel Storage

      Basic Carburetor principles/Circuits

      Carburetor servicing

      Fuel pumps

      Fuel Injection systems

      Fuel system adjustments

4th Quarter:

  • Electrical system service

      Starter removal disassembly/reassembly

      Starter installation

      Alternator removal disassembly/reassembly

      Starter/Alternator testing

      DVOM meter usage

      Basic 12volt wiring circuits

      Stator/Rectifier testing

      Ignition systems (Magneto, CD, Battery)

      Ignition system servicing

      Distributor Ign.System Timing

If time permits the following will be covered:

  • Brakes, Tires, Suspensions, Transaxles

      Tire and wheel service

      Disassembly/Reassembly disc brake systems

      Disassembly/Reassembly drum brake systems

Disassemble/Reassemble Transaxles

  • Grading:

Grading is broken down into three parts “ Related”, “Lab”, "Lab Project"

Related is 40% of your total grade, which includes the following:

            Text Assignments

            Quizzes

            Tests

            Video worksheets

            Misc. written assignments/verbal presentations

            Class participation

Lab is 50% of your total grade, which includes the following:

            Lab project participation, organized work area (2 Points earned)

            Clean up assignment completion, Time Card completion (daily) (1 Point earned)

            Wearing proper uniform, Wearing safety glasses/work boots (1 Point earned)

Your lab grade is 4 points per day 20 total points for the 5 day week, students must make every attempt to be present daily to earn the above points. These points can not be made up unless there is an emergency/medical reason which prevents the student from being present such as being hospitalized etc...in these cases a alternative assignment outside the classroom will be assigned.

Supplies:
  • Leather Workboots (NO tennis shoe or canvas type shoes allowed!)
  • Notebook paper
  • Pen/Pencil
  • Deodorant
Uniform will be provided and paid through the class fee. Ordering and sizing will take place the first week of school.
 
Uniform consists of five changes provided through CINTAS, each change consists of 1 pants and 1 shirt with name patch and program name.
